Why did GMC Oldsmobile Alero Fail? Because they produced Lemons instead of cars!
General Motors Corporation
Division of
The Oldsmobile Olds Alero
used a very poor quality of factory workmanship and materials when they build the Alero. The dash and three door pads
came unglued and buckled when it was still less than two years old and just turned 37,000 miles.
I purchased my 2002 GMC Oldsmobile Olds Alero Lemon from:
Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick Pontiac Oldsmobile Olds Dealer
1020 Bypass Road
Paris, Kentucky KY, 40361
Because my 2002 Alero just turned 37,000 the week before the dash and three door pads came unglued and buckled,
The dealer I bought my Alero from has refused to take any responsibility for GM Oldsmobile poor factory workmanship and materials used in my Alero
and will not repair or replace the defective dash and three door pads, and
Because my 2002 Alero just turned 37,000 miles just a few days before my Alero's dash and three of the door pads came unglued and buckled,
General Motors Oldsmobile has refused to help repair or replace the defective dash and door pads.
Because I was sold a 2002 GM Oldsmobile Alero by a dealer that is not reputable and because the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero I purchased was
manufactured by a company that is also not reputable--I am now stuck with a virtually new Alero that is virtually worthless because it was
built with poor factory workmanship and materials and the dash and three door pads have come unglued when it is still less then two years old--and just
turned 37,000 miles the week before the factor defect showed up,
I am now stuck owing many thousands of dollars more on a GM
2002 Oldsmobile Alero that is virtually worthless. It has no resale or trade in value because of the
factory defects.
The Extended Warranty--GM Protection Plan--Will Not Cover the Dash Pad and Door Pads When They Come Unglued and Buckled.
The extended warranty that I purchasing when I purchased my 2002 Alero in July of 2002, will not help because an extended warranty
will not cover factory defects that has caused the Alero dash and door pads have become unglued and buckled just as soon as it turned 37,000 miles.

I purchased this beautiful looking 2002 Red Alero from Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick Pontiac Olds Inc located in Paris, Kentucky on 15 JULY 2002.
Up until last week, this 2002 GMC Oldsmobile Alero appeared to have every thing that I could want in a medium sized and priced car.
One vacation trip of about 1,200 miles last week caused the mileage to go over the 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty before I got back home.
Once I got back home, I didn't drive it for a few days. When I did, my 2002 Oldsmobile (Olds) Alero had become lemon virtually over night.
When I opened the door too drive it again, I was horrified! The dash pad and three of the door pads under the windows had become unglued and warped
like an old washboard. Although the mileage turned 37,000 miles last week, the 2002 GMC Oldsmobile Alero is under three (3) years old.
When I purchased the 2002 GMC Oldsmobile (Olds) Alero on 15 JULY 2002, I also purchased the extended warranty on it because I had a 72 month loan on
the car. I wanted it to be covered for at least as long as I had to pay on the car.
With an extended warranty and comprehensive insurance, the 2002 GMC Oldsmobile Alero should be covered for anything right? Not so! Once the 2002
GMC Oldsmobile (Olds) turned over 37,000 miles while I was on a trip--Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick Pontiac Olds Inc located in Paris, Kentucky (KY)
service department manager refused to even look at the shoddy manufacturing defect which has caused the dash and three door pads to come unglued and
buckle up like an old washboard.
I took it back to Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick Pontiac Olds Inc located in Paris, Kentucky where I bought it on 15 JULY 2002, and was told since it had
37,000 miles on it--there was absolutely nothing that they would do to help me.
Because of the factory defect which caused the dash pad and three of the door pads to come unglued, the 2002 GMC Oldsmobile (Olds) depreciated in
value virtually over night. I now am left to pay the next 60 months for a piece of Alero junk.
Because I purchased the extended warranty when I bought it from Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick Pontiac Olds Inc located in Paris, Kentucky, I should be
able to keep it in good mechanical operation for the next four years that it is covered for mechanical defects. The extended warranty does not
cover factory defects in the interior.
The service manager at Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick Pontiac Olds Inc located in Paris, Kentucky finally did give me the 1-8---222-1020 for the GMC
Chevrolet Buick Pontiac Oldsmobile (Olds. I called them and explained what had happened to the 2002 GMC Oldsmobile (Olds) Alero. Well, the man
I spoke to at least talked decent to me which was more than I received from the Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick Pontiac Olds Inc located in Paris,
Kentucky where I bought it on 15 JULY 2002.
He said that he would investigate it, and call me back. He has yet to call me back. I have tried several times to call him back--and all I can
get is his answering machine to leave a message.
It doesn't appear that GMC Chevrolet Buick Pontiac Oldsmobile (Olds) Alero manufacturer is going to try to help fix the lemon either. It appears that
I am just out thousands of dollars for buying a piece of junk.
Since the 2002 GMC Oldsmobile (Olds) Alero depreciated so fast when the dash pad and three door pads came unglued and and is now all wrinkled up like an
old washboard, I can't even trade it in. Like I would trade it in for another GMC product.
The only thing that I can do is to try to warn other people about the quality of the 2002 GMC Oldsmobile (Olds) Alero. There is nothing that covers
the shoddy factory workmanship of the interior once it goes one mile over 36,000. You may be fortunate for the three (3) years to come up before the
36,000 miles. I wasn't so lucky. I had purchased the 2002 GMC Oldsmobile (Olds) because I knew that I was going to have to take several long trips
in the next two or three years.
If I had not of drove the 2002 GMC Oldsmobile Alero, the dash and three door pads that have come unglued would have been covered by GMC. But, since
I did drive the car, and it turned over 36,000 last week on a trip--it is not covered.
I plan to post the pictures on the Internet so all can see the kind of work that GMC Chevrolet Buick Pontiac Oldsmobile produces at the factory. I also
plan to have bright yellow lemons painted in it to let people know that it is a lemon; and who manufactured it, as well as who sold it.
It is too late for me to trade mine in since once the dash pad and the three door pads under the windows came unglued and buckled up--it has depreciated
so much in value, it is virtually worthless for a trade in for a decent manufactured car.

If I can answer any questions for you, you can email me at red_alero@hotmail.com I will be glad to answer any questions that you might have, and even send you more
pictures of my 2002 GMC Oldsmobile Alero Lemon with 37,000 miles on it which has become virtually worthless because of the shoddy workmanship at the
GMC factory.
If by chance you own one and the dash pad and door pads have not come unglued yet, take a look at the pictures of my 2002 GMC Oldsmobile Alero lemon--and
think about getting rid of yours as soon as you can. You could very well end up like me--and have it depreciate thousands of dollars virtually
over night if yours also comes unglued and bucked.
I also plan to take my bright red 2002 GMC Oldsmobile Alero lemon with the brightly painted lemons on it to every car show that I possibly can to show
it off. If you see my lemon out on the road--be sure and honk your horn at me to say hello.

If the dealer tells you that the interior door pads (dashboard) door pads (door panel) will be covered under the 5 year or 60,000 extended
warranty, make the dealer put it in writing for you before you purchase a GM General Motors new or used Alero. If the dealer will not put it
in writing--do yourself a favor and walk away and get yourself an automobile that is not just a series of factory defects.
GM Protection Plan
Alero: GM Protection Plan -- is it worth it?
Alero: GM Protection Plan,
specifically does not cover the following:
Air and water leaks, Batteries, Body panels and parts, Brake rotors, Brake drums, Bumpers, Carburetor, Carpet, Catalytic converter,
Contaminated fuel system, Convertible or vinyl tops, Exhaust system, Glass, Hinges, Lenses, Lightbulbs, Maintenance services and parts,
Moldings or bright metal, Odors, Paint, Physical damage, Rattles, Rust, Sealed beams, Sheet metal, Shock absorbers, Squeaks,
Throttle body assembly (except injectors, Tires, Trim, Upholstery, Weather-strips, Wind noise, Components not installed by the factory including:
Cellular phones, Theft deterrent systems, Air conditioning.
EVERYTHING ELSE IS COVERED! But, wouldn't you just know it--the thousands of Alero
owners complain of having all the problems that are specifically not covered with the GM Protection Plan.
Those of us who have been stupid enough to buy or lease them know well about the poor quality and poor service of the GMC Oldsmobile Alero
Alero, Unglued and wavy dash pad on 2000 Alero with only 30,000 miles and just turned 3 years and both dealer and GM refused to fix.
Alero Wavy door panels (again)
Alero, Wavy door panels (again)
Alero Warped dash
Alero, Great car but the dash pad pulled away above the venter part. . Lots of GM cars do that. Typical GM quality....Alero
Alero, A Total Waste of Money!
I have had many problems with my Alero. I have set up a website to try and get others having the same problems to join be in taking
action against the makers of these defective Aleros. The web address is
http://www.accesswave.ca/~alero02
The many problems in this Alero make buying it not worth it.
Most problems with my Alero have been cosmetic, it still runs great however, it is only 3 years old and starting to look very worn, even when
I take immaculate care of my vehicle. Very disappointing.
Strong engine, but poor wear and tear.
Noticed today (8/23/2003) that my dashboard LEATHER covering is BUBBLING
Most problems with my Alero have been cosmetic, DISENCHANTED OLDS Alero owners need to bombard GM/BBB with their complaints.
5th Sep 2003, Our Alero is a major LEMON!!
Cannot wait until my lease is up and it is time to turn the Alero in.
And this is why I'm unloading the Alero.
It was fine, up until recently. It's one problem as another! and I just
can't take it anymore.
Alero, Decent car, but I don't know if I would recommend it.
Alero, A low resale value. Alero, a real lemon.
Alero, Nice car, many annoyances.
We bought this Alero brand new in January 2002.
Slick Alero, multiple problems!!
BUY FROM ANOTHER Manufacturer, don't buy GM Oldsmobile Alero.
Alero, every time it
rains the front and back seats are wet. My current problem now is that my Alero won't start when it's raining, and the coolant light
keeps coming up.
Overall the Alero had poor performance in several areas.
Alero, Not very reliable.
Alero, nice looking car with hidden problems.
I wouldn't recommend an Alero to a friend. We are very disappointed in this Alero.
The Alero looks great and drives like a sports car, but, it's not worth it.
Do not buy this car! It may look nice and sporty, but it is a piece of junk. I'd honestly rather walk from place to place than ever
have to drive this Alero again.
I traded in after my Alero having it for 2.5 years and the trade-in value was horrible. I'm just glad to be rid of the Alero.
Alero, Powerful car with ongoing problems.
Alero, Good car with some problems, but terrible customer service.
Alero, is nice looking, but such a piece of crap.
Alero, Too many problems. Cheap construction. Lemon-cheap seat construction, falling apart and very uncomfortable.
Won't buy GM cars anymore. It's too bad this Alero has this many problems considering the car has a nice shape and handles well.
Alero, A concert of defects in a nice looking car.
Do yourself a favor and avoid an Alero car and GM at all costs. To buy an Alero is to regret it.
Alero, They should be recalled!
These Aleros have a lot of problems and are not safe.
Alero, A good looking pile of junk. Do not buy a new Alero. Aleros may look good, but they're not so great when you own one.
Look, but don't touch.
Alero, A low resale value lemon. The 36 month residual value of the car is only 30%, so don't buy an Alero unless you want to keep forever.
Alero, Not a good choice. My Alero seems to always have a problem and it is no longer under warranty so it will probably get really expensive.
Rubber sealing around the windshield is coming off. Don't buy it.
Oldsmobile Alero is the WORST car I have ever owned! I wish I could still file a complaint for "the lemon" law, but
I have dealt with it this long and since it's a lease I turn it in next month.
Cannot wait until my lease is up and it is time to turn the Alero in. Cannot wait until my lease is up and it is time to turn the car in.
I do not trust this Alero and would not recommend it to my worst enemy. I think this Alero is definitely a lemon...
Stinks. The worst as far as reliability, safety or trust. Oldsmobile should have gone Chapter 11 when they had the chance!
Alero, Olds Dealer and products are a BIG disappointment. This is my first and last experience with an Oldsmobile.
Alero, Dealer service has been terrible and Oldsmobile has been even worst.
Don't buy an Alero. Engine drives smooth, but rest of the Alero is a problem.
Piece of JUNK I will NEVER buy another GM product again! Alero is NOT reliable- sometimes will not start- GM Olds dealer answer to that "huh,
we just don't know- you got something funky going on there- but it has us stumped-good luck"
Drivers seat has small hole starting to wear through fabric.
All I have to say is if you are thinking about buying an Alero is RUN THE OTHER WAY!!!
Alero, Nice to look at, but don't buy one!!!
Not long after purchase, the leather started to curl away from the bottoms of all 4 windows, had to have that fixed,
only to have it start all over again.
Do not buy a car by General Motors under any circumstance.
Not worth the trouble at any price.
Rear window on driver's side leaks when it rains, causing a puddle on the floor. GM refuses to cover the repairs.
Alero, Not worth buying. The overhead light inside the car just fell off one day when I tried to turn it on.
The dealer actually broke one of the air vents when they were working on something else one day.
Alero, They should be recalled!
Alero, Why Oldsmobile Failed.
Automotive Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins for 2002 Oldsmobile Alero L4-134 2.2L
I would not recommend an Alero to anyone!!
I would not recommend an Alero to anyone!!
Just another GM money trap...AVOID!!! Avoid the Alero, folks. TRUST ME.
Alero, Nice-Looking, Sporty, But GUTLESS.
Alero, Doesn't measure up...
Alero, Doesn't hold value in long run.
Alero, Somewhat compact interior, wind noise, cheap plastic feel on controls.
Alero, For me, I've purchased my LAST GM new car.
Car Reviews - Oldsmobile Alero - promise unfulfilled
Alero seems to always have a problem and it is no longer under warranty so it will probably get really expensive.
But it's safe to say we've heard the last of Alero.
